Sacramento Kings In Review
Another year has past and again at the end of another season the Kings find themselves out of the playoffs, but not completely in the cellar, we will leave that to the Detroit Pistons. Once again for the 94' Draft I find myself in the 6th spot, the same spot as in 93'. The 93' Draft for me was good, I traded down and received another first rounder to get Carlos Rogers and then scored a big time pickup nabbing Bobby Hurley who some said would go in the top 5. So the rebuilding began for the Sacramento Kings. But it seems that my expiring players were not willing to sign back the team and jumped ship. I then in the off season got lucky and resigned Mitch Richmond who was my team from the get go. So let the 93' season begin............
The 93' season recap....
- Draft day after the 92'-93' season bought me 5 picks overall, after some trading and movement in the draft. I got Carlos Rogers and Bobby Hurley in the first round. The second round brought Rex Walters, Ronald Piggot, and Terry Dehere. I Used them in the lineup to fill in the second and third gaurd positions. As it turned out, Terry Dehere who played 12 minutes per game was scoring almost 5 a game, while Walters and Piggott were playing around 18 minutes and putting up around 7 a game. Not an instant boost for the Kings but some cheap decent fill in players.
- First 40 days and 25 games later landed me a 11-14 record. Big games included 2 games against the Blazers and got stomped in both, but managed to pull out wins against the defending champs the Jazz and the odds on favorites for this years championship the Suns. I thought at this point I was going to be an average team that may squeak in the 8th spot, but I wasn't going to celebrate just yet. My main man Mitch was the highlight of just about every game, with the assist monger Hurley getting better with every game. So on it went..........
- Second 40 days ended with another 25 games and a record of 11-14. Did beat the Lakers and the Bulls but lost to the Jazz and Suns this time. Richmond still poured in over 20 a game and Hurley was creeping up on averaging 10+ a game. My unknown PF Pete Chilcutt to many was putting up decent numbers of over 9 for points and boards. My big man Causwell was also scoring over 10 and stealing over 7 boards a game. At one point I was in the 8th spot in the West but alas the next round of games knocked the Kings down and out of any playoff hopes. After all this it was still not enough to send the Kings to the .500 mark. Hoping things will get better.....
- The third 40 days put us into the second half of the season and brought us to the end of the 93' season. These last days were crammed with games for the Kings and after being 22-28 for the first 80 days I ended up dropping the last 10 games in a row of a 12 game, in 12 days spurt, a hellish way to end the season and after that ending the season with a 34-48 record. Oh well, there is always the Draft!
Trading summary in 93'
The Kings trading in 93' had some people scratching their heads and I was finding myself having to explain my intentions. So here is the list and explanations of the Kings trades, starting with the most recent.
- Kings Trade
94 Suns 1st
T-Wolves Trade
94 Pistons 2nd
Twolves actually only move up 1 spot and Kings save about 1/2 the salary by only having to sign 1 first rounder, nough said. - Bulls send
Horace Grant
Kings send
94 1st RD pick owed from Jazz
96 1st RD Kings pick
The most misunderstood trade by many. The trade had 2 positive outcomes for me. One, I was aiding the Bulls GM by taking on Grants contract so he didn't have to eat it. Secondly, by the way, Horace is averaging 12/10 and after getting rid of Causwell he was a welcome player. I don't need 2 1st round picks and I plan to be a contender in 96'! - Suns Trade
94 first
Kings Trade
99 first
Uhmmmm, don't know it sounded like a fun thing to do????lol - Kings send:
Duane Causwell C 25 7'0'' 240 B- D+ D A- B- C
1.9million
and
Samuel Ward SF 32 6'6'' 252 C C B- C+ C- C
1 million
For the Pistons:
SF Victor Stojakovic 26 6'9'' 236 C- B- C+ B C A
$2,600,000
and
Stacey King PF 26 6'11'' 230 C+ C- C- C+ B C
$590,850
and a 1995 2 Rnd pick
Well Stojakovic is an A potential and signed for 6 years and Stacey is an expiring. Stoja averaged 5 points in 16 minutes backing up Walt Williams. This trade ended up pretty even with both benefiting. - Kings Trade
Anthony Bonner
TWolves Trade
Luc Longley
Longley has now become the backup for Grant and the Twolves needed a back up PF so it worked out great for both of us. - Jazz trade 1994 #1 and #2 to Kings for Kings 1995 #1
This trade was intended for trade bait. - The twolves trade
Thurl Bailey and his 7.1 mil expiring
1993 2nd rounder
for
Lionel Simmons
Wayman Tisdale
Purely a trade for expiring money.........
So here ends the Kings review of the 93' season. There were some trades I wish I could of landed and the player most asked for out of my roster was obviously Mitch Richmond which I never let go and as you read earlier I had to offer a bundle to resign him back on my team. I hope you enjoyed reading this article and the Kings are looking for a big turn around by 95' at the latest.
