Mutumbo all defense 2nd team and Sabonis 1st team rookie Sabonis should have won ROY?!? wtf are you thinking....I'll take Nick Van Exel's 17 points 9.3 assists 5.5 rebounds over Sabonis's 14.4 points 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists any day of the week.........

Nick is clearly better...but i would rather have the bone man (sabonis) on my team simply because he is the bone man and the intimidation factor is priceless.

So he didn't play enough.....what does that have to do with winning Rookie of the Year....Had you played him more maybe he wins it....or maybe he doesn't do as well when playing as a starter against starting Centers. Here is the per 36's for both players Arvydas-18.72 ppg 9.62 rpg 3.38 apg .91 spg 1.17 bpg 1.53 topg NVE-16.73 ppg 5.45 rpg 9.2 apg 1.39 spg .2 bpg 2.28 topg So Nick averaged 1.99 points less per 36 only 4 rebounds less (and thats a PG vs. a Center) and averaged nearly 6 assists more. Not to mention playing more against starters, there's no guarantee that Sabonis achieves his numbers that are projected....while Nick has proven that he can achieve his per 36.

plus NVE is 5 years younger so I'd take him but Sabas is perfect for the Nuggets who's core is all 27-28 so both should be happy with who they have.

^brophdogg just proved himself wrong in a sense by doing the math. i still think NICK is better player thop No as I said, although yes, Sabonis would average more points and rebounds....he would not be significantly ahead, and there is no guarantee that Sabonis would average those numbers, actually, the odds are high that he wouldn't since he would be playing against starters rather than backups.....for example say a player were to play 1 minute in all 82 games, and average 1 point per game and .5 rebounds and .2 assists, would he deserve the Rookie of the Year over a guy who scored 17 points had 5 rebounds a game and 8 assists in 37 minutes a game....His per 36's would be 36 points 18 rebounds 7.2 assists a game. The answer would be no....yeah he could have averaged those numbers, but the odds are very high that he wouldn't have...the second player proved what he could average, the first player only showed that given the time, maybe he could average that much............
